Het doel van de opleiding is het opleiden van specialisten die over grondige theoretische en praktische kennis beschikken op het gebied van de neerlandistiek — met inbegrip van literatuur, taalkunde en cultuur. Dankzij deze kennis zijn zij in staat hun vak op veelzijdige wijze te beoefenen, met een inter- en multidisciplinaire benadering, zowel op theoretisch als op praktisch niveau.
Afgestudeerden beschikken over een passend niveau van taalvaardigheid en over voldoende diepgaande theoretische voorbereiding om hun studie in de tweede cyclus van de opleiding voort te zetten.

Het hoofdvak neerlandistiek maakt deel uit van de bacheloropleiding germanistiek. Rechtsreekse toelating tot de opleiding is mogelijk met een eindexamen op gevorderd niveau in het Duits of Engels.
Zoals alle andere specialisaties is ook de neerlandistiek opgebouwd uit basis- en kernmodules, alsook uit specialisatievakken. Daarnaast kunnen studenten 60 studiepunten behalen met vrijkeuzevakken: 50 studiepunten binnen een specialisatie, een minorprogramma of tweede vakgebied dat aansluit bij de richting, en 10 studiepunten met vakken die voorbereiden op de lerarenopleiding of met andere vrij te kiezen vakken. Deze keuzevakken kunnen zonder verdere beperkingen worden gekozen uit het aanbod van de Faculteit der Geesteswetenschappen of van de universiteit.
Over de opleiding – in een notendop
Aan de Vakgroep Neerlandistiek maken studenten kennis met de taal, literatuur en cultuur van Nederland en Vlaanderen. De opleiding bestrijkt dus in feite de taal, literatuur en cultuur van twee landen: Nederland en het Nederlandstalige deel van België.

Bachelor in Dutch Studies
The aim of the programme is to train specialists who possess thorough theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Dutch studies — including literature, linguistics, and culture. With this knowledge, they are capable of practising their profession in a versatile manner, using an inter- and multidisciplinary approach, both at a theoretical and practical level.
Graduates have an appropriate level of language proficiency and sufficient in-depth theoretical preparation to continue their studies in the second cycle of the programme.

The Dutch Studies major operates within the Bachelor’s programme in Germanic Studies. Students can apply directly with a higher-level German or English matriculation exam. Like all other specializations, Dutch Studies is built on foundation modules, core professional modules, and specialized professional content, supplemented by 60 credits of freely elective professional knowledge. Of these, 50 credits can be earned through a specialization, programme, or track within the major, or through a specialization in another track within the programme or in a second subject. The remaining 10 credits can be obtained through foundational modules for teacher training or other freely chosen courses. These electives can be selected freely from the offerings of the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) or the institution.

At the Department of Dutch Studies, students explore Dutch-Flemish language, literature, and culture, encompassing the languages, literatures, and cultures of both the Netherlands and the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium.
